The Apartheid Killer
The Apartheid Killer investigates the case of Louis van Schoor, a former police officer and security guard responsible for dozens of fatal shootings of Black South Africans during the 1980s. Through rare access to van Schoor alongside testimony from victims’ families, our investigation examines how apartheid-era policing and courts repeatedly deemed the killings lawful, embedding violence within everyday law enforcement. Its release led to renewed public scrutiny and the reopening of van Schoor’s case, decades after the shootings took place.
